Case Details
The construction of computer machine rooms is a critical component of network communication infrastructure development. Once a new compliant machine room is established, the relocation process of the existing facility becomes paramount, as it must meet the requirements of various electronic devices such as computers and environmental conditions.
With the increasing business demands of the frontier inspection station, the existing machine room can no longer meet practical needs. A standardized computer machine room is planned for construction on the 1st floor of the office building. The scope includes machine room decoration, precision air conditioning, UPS power distribution, power & environmental monitoring systems, gas fire suppression, lightning protection, and the addition of cabinets/control consoles. The goal is to create a standardized, intelligent, safer, more reliable machine room that is easier to maintain and reduces operational costs to address growing business demands, providing a high-standard environment for system and equipment operation, promoting standardized construction, reducing energy consumption, and preventing accidents.
The total construction area of the machine room is 61.3 square meters, divided into three zones: main machine room, basic work area, and auxiliary rooms.
Project Overview: The newly planned central machine room spans 61.3 m², with a floor plan layout as shown in the diagram below.

Machine Room: Houses network devices, servers, storage equipment, etc. The layout maximizes indoor space utilization and accommodates future expansion, with equipment categorized and evenly distributed for easy management. Placement locations are determined by equipment weight, and maintenance space is reserved around each cabinet (front, back, left, right). Dedicated areas for UPS systems, battery banks, and utility power input/output distribution panels are included.(1) Floor Plan Layout
- Equipment Spacing:
- Front door spacing of equipment cabinets ≥ 1200mm.
- Rear hot aisle of UPS systems ≥ 500mm.
- Precision air conditioners are fully front-maintainable equipment.
- Critical equipment is secured with anti-shift measures to prevent displacement.
-
Scope of Work primarily includes:
- Machine room decoration (including structural modifications, flooring, doors/windows, etc.).
- Electrical systems (power distribution, UPS installation, etc.).
- Lightning protection and grounding systems.
- Temperature control and fresh air systems.
- Cabling installation, operations room setup, KVM systems, etc.
-
Design Basis: Constructed in accordance with national and industry standards, referencing:
- Construction documents (architectural design plans, floor layouts).
- On-site conditions and survey data.
- Relevant national standards and codes:
- GB 50174-2008 Code for Design of Electronic Information System Machine Rooms
- GB 50462-2008 Code for Construction and Acceptance of Electronic Information System Machine Rooms
- GB 50116-98 Code for Design of Automatic Fire Alarm Systems
- Military Communication Network Machine Room Construction Standards (2013)
